in a fiberglass
sliver of
subway
sealed
precious gelatinous base
of my memory
painful intense
each time the train
trembled;
your hands wrapped around
my heart
we passed Chabacano
San Antonio
Pino Suárez
hurtling too quickly
through dark untouched
prism of time
(i closed my eyes,
breathed your scent
hung tentatively suspended
in the tranquil garden
of my past
i did not want you
to let go)
we waited for the doors to open
to walk
separately
into the cool wet night
and disappear
